Many people think that fly fishing is complicated and difficult. It’s true that there is enough to learn about fly fishing to keep you going for a lifetime, but getting started and having fun is not that difficult. We can help you sort through all of the gear to figure out what you do need and what you don’t. We can help you select and set up a fly rod for the kind of fishing you want to do. And while there are thousands of different kinds of flies for fly fishing, we can help you select the types that you will need for your fishing, whether cold water, warm water, or saltwater.

In this introduction class, we will learn about fly rods, fly reels, fly lines, backing, leaders and tippets.  We will learn how to rig lines to reels, leaders to lines, tippets to leaders, flies to tippets, how to safely put rods together and to safely break them apart. We will learn how to tie several basic knots. We will learn about fly fishing accessories and how to prepare for a successful and safe fly fishing outing. We will discuss different types of water to fish and the types of fish that you can fly fish for in these waters.  We will show different kinds of flies you can use in each water type. We will also discuss waters that you can fish closest to the Charlotte area.
